A Sign

Today is Fat Tuesday. In honor of Fat Tuesday I had planned on eating a really fattening pasta for lunch, my left overs from last night. It was delicious and I was so looking forward to eating it. I figured that after today I would start a diet. I always find lent to be a good motivation to eat better.

Here are some pictures of my delicious lunch...

on the floor.
When I was walking over to the microwave it just slipped out of my hand. I don't know what happened but needless to say, I didn't get to eat my pasta.

So I took it as a sign. I was supposed to start my diet today. So instead I had a half of an avocado and a homemade detoxifying tea. It was actually almost as delicious as the pasta. Well, at least that is what I tell myself.

I am including the recipe for the tea here for anyone who would like to try it. I got the recipe from an Ayurvedic cookbook called, Eat-Taste-Heal. I have been making this tea every now and then for the past couple of months and I enjoy it a lot.

Here is what you need.

  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1tsp Fennel Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Coriander
  • 1tsp Fresh Ginger, grated or pressed
  • A Squeeze of Lemon (put in while it is steeping)
  • Filtered water (makes up to 4 cups)

A Tea Press

A Garlic (Ginger) Press
Or you could use a grater, I think I get more of the juice this way.

You mix all of the ingredients in the Tea Press

And let it sit for 2-5 minutes, with the press half down.

If anyone is interested in being diet/workout buddies, let me know. We can keep each other focused. Also, is anyone planning on giving anything up for lent?  I am not particularly religious but I always give something up. This year it may be chocolate... Don't quote me on that. I still have a few minutes to decide.

  1. As you may have seen from my post on IN and my blog that I'm doing the diet thing, I'd love to be a diet buddy...though I tend to do it differently than many...best of luck (and avocados are one of my fav things to eat in life).

  2. Oh, no! That pasta just didn't want to let you get in one last day. :)

I need to try that tea ... and get my diet and workout in gear. The holiday treats are lingering on my waistline. :( So I would definitely be up for being a health-stuff motivation buddy!

This is a really stupid question, but is Lent a Catholic thing? I grew up in a really religious home but we were Protestant and I literally never heard Lent mentioned until I was an adult. So I guess I won't be giving anything up. LOL.

  3. Jaclyn, lent is a catholic thing. I'm not catholic. Growing up, my dad liked the idea of giving something up for lent so we always had to do it. He is much more religious than I, but as I got older I still always did it anyway. I think it is a good thing for a short time each year to have a daily reminder to live more as Jesus did. Whether or not you believe he was the son of God or not there is no denying he was a great man. I mean it's 2000something years later and we are still talking about this one human being.
So I have decided as my motivation I am going to post what I ate for the day at the bottom of each post I do. That way I can share some recipes or ideas and give myself a daily goal. Feel free to comment on my posts what you did to make yourself healthier. Or steal my idea if you want for your blog.
